Summary

Develop a whole-body approach to infant assessment and treatment, integrating neurological, musculoskeletal, respiratory, feeding, and oral motor function.

Format

  • Live, in-person
  • 2 day (16 hours )
  • Combination of didactic, practical, and lab-based learning
  • Infant demo labs

Key Objectives:

  • Apply a whole-body, midline-oriented framework to understand infant development, integrating neuromotor, postural, musculoskeletal, respiratory, and oral-motor systems.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of infants, and relate findings to neurodevelopment.
  • Differentiate between common infant presentations (e.g., torticollis, positional preference, cranial asymmetry, oral motor dysfunction) and identify key red flags requiring referral.
  • Analyze the interrelationship between feeding, respiration, posture, and motor development in clinical decision-making.
  • Implement targeted, hands-on treatment strategies to address alignment, mobility, regulation, and functional, whole-body movement.
  • Assess and support oral-motor function, including tongue mobility, suck coordination, and the functional implications of oral restrictions.
  • Critically evaluate and integrate current evidence related to oral restrictions, frenectomy decision-making, and conservative management.
  • Develop individualized care plans that align family goals, functional outcomes, and long-term developmental trajectories.
  • Confidently educate and coach caregivers using practical, realistic, and goal-oriented strategies.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary providers and make informed decisions regarding referrals (e.g., for cranial orthoses, frenectomy, lactation support).
